Jericocoara, is the most relaxing beach in the whole of Brazil in my opinion...maybe even in the world!
Jeri, as it's referred to by locals here on the Northeast coast, is located about 300km further up the coast from the capital city of Ceara State, Fortaleza.
It can be reached from Fortaleza by bus, van or 4 wheel drive vehicle...because the final part of the trip is on sand!
Its population is currently around 17,000 so you can tell it's easy to get around. There are no paved roads and people walk, bicycle or take a buggy (for rent all over the place) to get where they want to go.
Sunset Dune is famous as a place to watch the beautiful sunsets. The warm and scenic lagoons behind the dunes are the best place to swim as the ocean is shallow there.
Blue Lagoon is probably the best known.
The weather is very tropical, with daytime temps of around 31C but there is almost always a breeze off the ocean. At night the temperature gets down to about 23C.
Speaking of the breeze, it has made Jeri a world known destination for kite-surfers. There is also sailing available.
Pousadas are increasing in number so there should be no problem with reservations, but for High Season, it's a good idea to book as far in advance as possible.
Jeri is safer than the big cities but it's still a good idea to take good care of your belongings.
As for nightlife, there are many small bars and beach parties, plus restaurants, serving mostly the local seafood.
Jeri is still just a small town that is controlled by the government, so services are still pretty basic...for example take cash with you as getting money changed is very difficult if not impossible.
There is more English spoken in Jeri than in Fortaleza, for example, because their main business is tourism, but it's a good idea to know at least a little Portuguese.
Internet access is growing but still pretty basic, so something to keep in mind.
Jericocoara is one of the most romantic destinations in all of Brazil and certainly worth a 2 day weekend.
